Shanghai Airlines (hereinafter referred to as "Shanghai Airlines" or "Shanghai Airlines"), formerly known as Shanghai Airlines, was established in December 1985. It is the first commercial limited liability aviation enterprise with diversified investment in China. On January 28, 2010, the joint reorganization of absorbing and merging Shanghai Airlines by exchanging shares of China Eastern Airlines was successfully completed, and Shanghai Airlines became a member enterprise of the new China Eastern Airlines. On May 28, 2010, as a wholly-owned subsidiary of China Eastern Airlines, Shanghai Airlines Co., Ltd. was officially put into operation.
Shanghai Airlines has more than 100 advanced aircraft fleet dominated by Boeing and Airbus, and has opened more than 100 domestic routes. It also has 17 medium and long-distance international and regional routes to Japan, South Korea, Thailand, Australia, Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Budapest, Hong Kong, Macao and Taipei, with an annual passenger volume of 12.3954 million.
Shanghai Airlines officially withdrew from Star Alliance on November 1, 2010, and announced that it would join Trina with its parent company, China Eastern Airlines.
