The national flag is rectangular and the ratio of length to width is 2:1. In the Yellow frame, there are two vertical rectangles of green and orange on the left, and a red rectangle on the right, with a Bodhi leaf on each corner and a lion holding the sword in the middle. The Yellow frame symbolizes people's pursuit of light and happiness, orange and green represent ethnic minorities, and red represents the largest ethnic Sinhalese in Sri Lanka. The four Bodhi leaves represent the belief in Buddhism. The lion marks the ancient name of the country "lion country".
