Guangzhou Automobile Group Co, Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as GAC group) is the predecessor of Guangzhou Automobile Group Co., Ltd., which was established in June 1997. On June 28, 2005, Guangzhou Automobile Industry Group Co., Ltd., Wanxiang Group Co., Ltd., China Machinery Industry Group Co., Ltd., Guangzhou Iron and Steel Enterprise Group Co., Ltd. and Guangzhou Changlong Hotel Group Co., Ltd. were co sponsors of the former Guangzhou Automobile Group Co., Ltd It is the first enterprise in China's automobile industry to introduce several joint venture partners at the group level to restructure and establish a joint-stock company.

In 2017, GAC's automobile production and sales reached 2017000 and 2001000 respectively, with a year-on-year growth of 21.54% and 21.27%; its total operating revenue was 339.773 billion yuan, with a year-on-year growth of 23.21%. In the Fortune Global 500 list in 2018, GAC group ranked 202nd, 36 places higher than that in 2017. On December 18, 2019, people's daily ranked 38th in the "China brand development index" 100 list.
