China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC) is the largest oil and gas producer and distributor in China's oil and gas industry. It is one of the companies with the largest sales revenue in China and one of the largest oil companies in the world. PetroChina is a joint stock limited company established exclusively by CNPC in accordance with the company law and the special provisions of the State Council on overseas stock raising and listing of joint stock limited companies. It was established on November 5, 1999. The ADSS and H shares issued by PetroChina were listed on the New York Stock Exchange Limited and the stock exchange of Hong Kong Limited on April 6 and 7, 2000 respectively (New York Stock Exchange ads code PTR, stock exchange of Hong Kong stock code 857), and on November 5, 2007 were listed on the Shanghai Stock exchange (stock code 601857).
Since its establishment, PetroChina has established and improved a standardized corporate governance structure in accordance with relevant laws, regulations, normative documents and articles of association, such as the company law and the necessary provisions of articles of association of companies listed overseas. The general meeting of shareholders, board of directors and board of supervisors of the company can operate independently and effectively in accordance with the articles of association.

It is a state authorized investment institution and a super large state-owned enterprise managed by SASAC One of the groups.
