China Railway Corporation is a large enterprise group integrating survey, design, construction and installation, industrial manufacturing, real estate development, resources and mineral resources, financial investment and other businesses. Its headquarter is located in Beijing, China. As one of the world's largest construction contractors, China Railway has entered the top 500 enterprises in the world for 14 years in a row, ranked 55th in fortune world top 500 enterprises in 2019 and 12th in China's top 500 enterprises.
China Railway has a history of more than 100 years. In March 1950, it was the General Administration of engineering and design of the Ministry of railways, and later changed to the General Administration of capital construction of the Ministry of railways. In July 1989, the State Council approved the withdrawal of the General Administration of capital construction and the establishment of China Railway Engineering Corporation. In September, 2000, it was separated from the real administrative enterprises of the Ministry of Railways and transferred to the central large enterprise working committee for management as a whole. In May 2003, the state owned assets and Resources Commission of the State Council performed the functions of the investor. On September 12th, 2007, China Railway Engineering Corporation launched the establishment of China Railway Corporation Limited exclusively, and listed on Shanghai Stock Exchange and Hong Kong Stock Exchange on December 3 and December 7, 2007. In December 2017, the company was transformed from a state owned enterprise owned by the whole people to a wholly state-owned company, and was renamed China Railway Engineering Group Co., Ltd.
China Railway has the special qualification of general contracting of railway engineering, the first grade qualification of general contracting of highway engineering, the first grade qualification for general contracting of municipal public works, the professional contracting qualification of bridge engineering, tunnel engineering, highway subgrade and pavement engineering, and professional contracting qualification of urban rail transit engineering approved by the Ministry of housing and urban rural development of China, and the qualification of the people of China Qualification certificate of the foreign economic cooperation and business import and export enterprises with the China.
China Railway has successively participated in the construction of more than two thirds of the total mileage of China Railway; the construction of electrified railway accounts for 90% of the total mileage of China's electrified railway; the expressway involved in the construction accounts for about one eighth of the total mileage of China's expressway; and three-fifth of China's urban rail projects have been constructed.
China Railway business covers almost all the basic construction fields, including railway, highway, municipal, housing construction, urban rail transit, water conservancy and hydropower, airport, port, wharf, etc., and can provide a package of turnkey services for "vertical integration" of construction industry. In addition, the company has implemented the limited related diversification strategy, and has made good development in the fields of survey and design, industrial equipment and parts manufacturing, real estate development, mineral resources development, expressway operation, finance and other businesses.
China Railway has accumulated rich experience in the research and development and manufacture of super large bridge, deep-water bridge, long tunnel, railway electrification, bridge steel structure, shield and high-speed turnout, and construction of test field, and has formed unique management and technical advantages. In terms of bridge construction technology, there are many construction technologies at the world advanced level; tunnel and urban subway construction technology is at the leading level in China, and some of them reach the world advanced level; railway electrification technology represents the highest level in China.
China Railway machinery equipment is leading. It has the largest number of tunneling machinery (shield, TBM), the largest lifting vessel in Asia, a complete set of deep sea water operation construction equipment, the most domestic bridge erecting machine and track laying machine for railway construction, and the most number of overhead contact line construction equipment used for electrified railway construction in China. The company can develop and manufacture the special heavy industry machinery with international advanced level, and it is one of the three enterprises in the world that can independently produce TBM and have intellectual property rights.
China Railway is the first batch of "innovative enterprises" awarded by the Ministry of science and technology, the state owned assets supervision and Administration Commission of the State Council and the National Federation of trade unions. The company has won 120 National Science and technology progress and invention awards, including 5 special prizes and 16 first prizes; the company has 12707 patents, including 2843 invention patents; and has three national laboratories, namely "National Engineering Laboratory of high speed railway construction technology", "National Key Laboratory of shield and tunneling technology" and "National Key Laboratory for bridge structure health and safety".
China Railway has more than 290000 employees, including more than 85000 middle and senior technical personnel, 2417 senior titles and 1 academician of Chinese Academy of engineering.

Since the construction of 1861 km Tanzania Zambia railway project in 1970s, a large number of excellent projects have been built in many countries such as Asia, Africa, Europe, South America and Oceania.
