According to foreign media reports, Ghana President Akufo-Addo announced on September 14 that Ghana Aluminum Integrated Development Company will start four key projects.
One is the expansion of the existing mine project in Awaso, northwest Ghana, and the establishment of a refinery.
The second and third projects are a new mining project and a new refinery in the Nyinahin-Mpasaaso and Kyebi regions, respectively.
The fourth is the upgrading of the Volta aluminum smelter in the Tema region.
These projects are aimed at ensuring the full utilization of bauxite in Ghana.
These projects are expected to cost $6 billion and will be taken forward by private investors in partnership with the Ghana Aluminum Complex Development Corporation.
Akufo-Addo emphasizes that all these projects must be carried out in an environmentally friendly manner and that the bauxite ore must be developed in a rational manner.
