According to the U.S. Bureau of Statistics data show that in the second quarter, the United States imported 734,000 tons of bauxite, up 5.61% YoY and 103.32% YoY, compared to 695,000 tons and 361,000 tons imported in the previous quarter and the same period last year, respectively.
In the first half of the year, the United States imported a total of 1.43 million tons of bauxite, an increase of 99.16% year-on-year, compared with 718,000 tons imported in the same period last year.
In the second quarter, Jamaica remained the No. 1 supplier of bauxite to the U.S., supplying a total of 633,000 tons of bauxite, a slight decline of 1% YoY and 13% YoY, compared to 639,000 tons and 728,000 tons of bauxite supplied to the U.S. in the previous quarter and the same period last year, respectively. In the first half of the year, Jamaica exported a total of 1.27 million tons of bauxite to the United States.
Turkey is the second largest supplier of bauxite ore to the U.S., supplying a total of 75,500 tons of bauxite ore, compared with 56,500 tons in the first quarter, an increase of 33.63% QoQ.
In addition, the U.S. imported 25,000 tons of bauxite from other countries in the second quarter.
In 2020, the U.S. imported a total of 3.18 million tons of bauxite, down 14.29% YoY from 2019.
