Founded in 1951, TEPCO employs more than 40000 people, providing one-third of Japan's electricity demand, including the capital Tokyo.
The scale of TEPCO enterprises accounts for one third of Japan's national power industry, and the power grid mainly covers the Tokyo Metropolitan Area and the surrounding eight counties. At present, there are 188 power stations with a total installed capacity of 58.84 million kilowatts. Among them, there are 24 thermal power stations with an installed capacity of 33.03 million kilowatts; 3 atomic power stations with an installed capacity of 17.31 million kilowatts; 160 hydropower stations with an installed capacity of 8.51 million kilowatts; and 1 wind power station with an installed capacity of 500 kilowatts. In addition, it has 1542 substations with a total installed capacity of 250.95 million KVA. In 2000, the company sold 280.7 billion kwh of electricity.
In addition, as a large group enterprise, Dongdian also has a number of subsidiaries, whose business scope covers equipment maintenance, fuel supply, equipment and material supply, environmental protection, real estate, transportation, information communication and other industries.
Tokyo Electric Power Company of Japan built a natural pressure difference power station in 2001 to improve energy utilization. Differential pressure power generation refers to the use of liquefied natural gas at low temperature into gas generated expansion energy to generate electricity, namely the so-called "hot and cold power generation".
The power station started construction at the end of 2001 and was completed at the beginning of 2003 with a power generation capacity of 7700 kW. Usually, when using pipeline high-pressure natural gas to generate electricity, it needs to reduce pressure. After natural gas is compressed, its volume will expand 9 times, which will produce considerable energy. Natural gas pressure difference power generation is to use the energy generated by high pressure gas when reducing pressure to generate power, also known as "gas direct expansion mode".
TEPCO maintains close contacts with China's power sector. According to the regular exchange agreement signed with the former Ministry of energy of the people's Republic of China, Dongdian has organized two training courses for cadres of China's electric power enterprises every year since 1992. By the end of last year, 19 batches of about 300 people had been trained.
