E6 is the world's leading manufacturer and supplier of superhard materials. Headquartered in Luxemburg, element6 operates globally with major manufacturing plants in China, the Netherlands, Sweden, South Africa and the UK.
For more than 50 years, the synthesis and processing of superhard materials has always been our core business. Our products include synthetic diamond and other superhard materials, such as cubic boron nitride (CBN) and silicon-based polycrystalline diamond, as well as cemented carbide. Synthetic diamond is the hardest material known on the earth, which has many extreme characteristics and is one of the most useful and unusual materials. Synthetic diamond is composed of carbon, which is the sixth element in the periodic table of elements. Therefore, the company gets its name: element six.
Element six's mission is to meet customers' demand for extreme performance through innovative superhard material solutions. Element six focuses on close strategic development cooperation with customers, so as to provide customized and innovative high-performance products. The company continuously pursues to provide high quality customer service and help customers continuously improve their productivity.
The business of element 6 consists of technology and abrasive. Among them, the technology business is 100% owned by DeBeers group; the shares of abrasive business are jointly owned by DeBeers group (holding about 60%) and Global Materials Group Umicore (holding about 40%).
Abrasive business covers oil and gas, advanced materials and cemented carbide. Abrasive products include synthetic diamond and cubic boron nitride synthesized at high temperature and high pressure and cemented carbide sintered at high temperature. The products are used for cutting, grinding, drilling, shearing and polishing, which promote the demand growth of automobile, aerospace, oil and gas drilling, mining, electronics, pavement maintenance, stone, construction, wood processing and other industries.
The technology division applies chemical vapor deposition technology to produce ultra-high purity man-made diamond, and develops the extreme performance beyond the hardness of man-made diamond to the extreme. Potential applications of these extreme properties include optics, power transmission, water treatment, semiconductors and sensors. Based on the future potential of CVD technology, element 6 has set up a venture capital business unit to carry out investment projects and seek new applications based on synthetic diamond. The unique and extreme characteristics of man-made diamond will help us solve some of the most challenging industrial problems in the world, and make man-made diamond enter an exciting new era of growth in the coming decades.
